A large, mottled green/gold pumpkin grown for the high oil and protein rich content of the large, hull-less seeds which can be eaten raw or roasted or pressed for oil. Each pumpkin contains over 200 seeds. The flesh, although somewhat lacking in flavour compared to other pumpkins, can be roasted and pureed for pumpkin soup, diced and added to stuffing, or roasted and served in a hearty green salad.
The Styrian pumpkin plant is problem-free, fast-growing and a rewardingly prolific producer of the large fruits weighing in at 5 – 8 kg.. Prepare the the bed with plenty of aged manure or compost, and sow the seeds direct.. Take care not to overwater the germinating seeds as they can have a tendency to rot.
